PCM1861EVM: Does GUI for EVM is mandatory to convert I2S from analog input?

Part Number: PCM1861EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1861, PCM9211

Hi team,

Our customer wants to convert analog input to I2S by PCM1861EVM.

This device is hardware setting, so I think the EVM doesn't require the GUI to operate this EVM.

Can I confirm this device is necessary the GUI for conversion?

Customer wants to use this EVM for demonstration without GUI.

Regards,

Nishimura

  • Hello Nishimura,

PCM1861 is HW controlled device and you can use the device for a demo if you will run the device in SLAVE mode without GUI.

Make sure to configure the part correctly by pulling MD6 and MD5 high according to pg. 5 in the datasheet.  On the EVM, there are small zero ohm jumpers soldered onto the board near the header pins J7 that control the configuration of the part.  In the stock congifuration they pull the pins low. Make sure MD6 and MD5 are pulled high by soldering the resistors to the "H" 3.3V supply.

The default for the PCM1861EVM is slave mode with the inputs single ended on Vin2. The output will be on the optical outputs. This is basically "mode 0" described in the user’s guide. Be sure the Y0 and the jumper match Mode 0.

If you need to run the device in MASTER mode, then you will need to convert to Mode 1 where the PCM186x is the master but you will need the USB-I2X board so you can set up the PCM9211. This would require GUI...

    Best regards,
    Ravi
