PCM5102EVM-U: Configuration without Windows

Part Number: PCM5102EVM-U
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5102

I'm trying to configure my PCM5102EVM to evaluate while using its optical or coaxial SPDIF inputs, but I don't own a Windows machine.  The manual for the EVM is pretty vague, so I'm looking for guidance to either configure it manually without connecting it to a computer, or to configure it through other means on my non-windows machine without running the CodecControl software.  The configuration changes I need to make are the most utterly basic, simply switching digital audio input sources, so I'm baffled as to why I'd need to use software that only runs on that one archaic operating system.  I'm a circuit designer, not a programmer, but I know there must be a way to to send commands to this thing from my modern computer.  Also, does the EVM store these configuration changes in the nonvolatile memory?

I'm thankful in advance for whatever help one of you is able to provide.

  • Hi Justin,

The PCM5102EVM requires software to configure the SRC device on the board, which acts as a digital mux to control the various inputs.  There is a version of PurePath Console 3 for Mac, which has a generic I2C master page that might be able to be used to configure the PCM5102EVM.  You could also consider using some other type of I2C master to configure the SRC or bypass the SRC and bring an I2S source directly to the PCM5102.  You can use the attached files as reference for programming the SRC.

Another version of PurePath Console (1.16) allows you to configure the EVM as well, and that can operate on all windows platforms, including windows 10.
