TPA2012D2: If we want mono-load speaker contained stereo audio, How schematic should be modified for TPA2012D2

Part Number: TPA2012D2

Dear,

We use TI audio PA  TPA2012D2  for driving an 2W/4 Ω mono-load speaker.

Please double confirm as below chart audio PA block: stereo audio signal from audio codec, and drive mono-load speaker, it can workes or not? If I want mono-load speaker contained stereo audio, How schematic should be modified?

schematic:

If any suggestion, Please advise me.

Thanks,

Best regards,

Lawrence.

  • Hi Lawrence,

This device was not designed to operate in PBTL mode, so there are some constraints that need to be considered if you want to do so:

    • The inputs will need to be tied together. INR+ tied to INL+ and INR- tied to INL-. The same signal should drive both channels.
    • The output connection will be OUTL+ tied to OUTR+ and OUTL- tied to OUTR-. In the schematic above it seems you're doing the opposite.
    • Any offset between the inputs will cause the PWM outputs to be not perfectly in sync.
    • You will need to isolate the outputs with an LC filter before paralleling them (PBTL after the filter). Ferrite bead filter could work (you would need to test this) but the safest option is to use LC filters.
