TLV320ADC3101-Q1: Missing information in datasheet

Part Number: TLV320ADC3101-Q1

Dear all, datasheet SLAS553B (rev. August 2015) reports at page 79:

In general, NADC must be as large as possible as long as the following condition can still be met:

MADC x AOSR/32 >= RC

RC is a function of the chosen processing block and is listed in the Resource Class column of Table 5.

We have a couple of issues:

  • The text mentions NADC but the formula reports MADC: which is the right parameter?
  • Table 5 is actually unrelated to this topic (reports input impedance) and we could not find any other definition of RC in the datasheet.

We need such info to validate a custom choice of NADC/MADC for our usage

Thanks in advance and best regards

Andrea

  • Andrea,

    This appears to be an error.  refer to section 10.3.7 in the datasheet (page 22)

    In many of codecs with the MiniDSP rather than giving this constraint in terms of Instruction counts,  it is given in terms of a a more abstract parameter called "resource class"  (RC)   In the ADC3101 because the instruction count is actually assignable in a register,  this may have led the author to decide to use instruction count instead.

    So Table 6 contains the required instruction counts for the processing blocks,  however if you are using the programable mini-DSP,  then Purepath Studio will tell you your instruction count.

    The constraint you are showing is the same constraint as is on Figure 28

    Hopefully that clarifies things.  I will make a note to correct the application design procedure on page 79.

    best regards,
