DRV134: Multiple receivers with a single transmitter

Part Number: DRV134
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV135, INA137, INA134, INA1651

I would like to have a single differential transmitter (DRV134 / DRV135) drive up to 50 differential receivers (INA134 / INA137).  The idea is to have a line level audio signal that is distributed throughout a large building to amplified speakers.  Each 1W to 4W speaker would have a differential receiver and a small audio amplifier attached to the speaker cone.  Two twisted pairs (4 wires total) would supply line level audio (1Vp-p) and DC power to each speaker.

The basic question is can a single differential transmitter drive multiple differential receivers without degrading the quality of the audio signal.  If this method would not work can you suggest a method that would

  • Hi Todd,

Thank you for your post. This design should be okay.

However, you may want to consider using the INA1651 instead of the INA134/137 for your receiver. The INA1651 has higher input impedance so in the event that you want to drive more than 50 receivers, you can. The INA1651 also has higher CMRR and is a more modern solution.
