TLV320AIC3268: Power Dissipation

Part Number: TLV320AIC3268
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3254, , TLV320AIC3262

Dear, Sir.

My customer is considering to apply TLV320AIC3254 or TLV320AIC3268

for their wireless analog microphone system.

So, I would like to make sure following. Please give your advice.

1. I wonder the integrated miniDSP(A/D) performance is exactly same

   between TLV32-AIC3262 & AIC3268?

2. I found the power dissipation reference infomation on TLV320AIC3262

   such as ;

   * 2.7mW(Playback@48kHz), 5.6mW(Record@48kHz).

   I wonder the power dissipation could be referred to TLV320AIC3268?

Best Regards,

H. Sakai

  • Hello Sakai-san,

    The AIC3262 miniDSP is very similar to the AIC3268 miniDSP. They are of the same generation and code compatible.

    For the power consumption details please refer to the miscellaneous Electrical Characteristics table in section 7.11 (page 18 onwards) in the datasheet http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tlv320aic3268.pdf

  • Dear, Sir.

    Thank you so much for your valuable information.

    I tried to check "P(total)" of both products, TLV320AIV3262 & AIC3268.

    It seems the power consumption of TLV320AIC3268 is only 14% of AIC3262.

    I wonder this ration could be utilized to estimate the power consumption?

    The customer is expecting lower power consumption product, so it would be

    a big advantage of TLV320AIC3268.

    Sorry to disturb your job again & again, but please give your advice.

    Best Regards,

    H. Sakai

  • Hello Sakai-san,

    Yes, the shutdown power of AIC3268 is significantly lower than AIC3262. The DVDD and AVDD currents are significantly lower for AIC3268 in the shutdown mode.

    Power consumption during active mode between the two devices are comparable. Please refer to sections 2.6.2 & 2.6.3 in the AIC3262 ARG (http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slau309.pdf) ADC & DAC power consumption details. The active power consumption for AIC3268 are provided in the table in section 7.11 in the datasheet.

    I hope this is the information that you are looking for.

    Best Regards.

  • Dear, Sir.

    Thank you so much for all of your teaching & valuable information.

    The selection by customer is proceeding well based on your support.

    The target products will be TLV320AIC3254 or TLV320AIC3268.

    I found the reference power dissipation such as ;

    TLV320AIC3254  : 4.1mW(Playback@48kHz), 6.1mW(Record@48kHz).

    TLV320AIC3268  : 2.7mW(Playback@48kHz), 5.6mW(Record@48kHz).

    The customer will be used under 96kHz or 192kHz.

    How much power dissipation increasing would be estimated operating

    96kHz or 192kHz?

    The exact number is not needed, like increasing percentage will be enough.

    Sorry to disturb your job, again. But please give your advice one more time.

    Best Regards,

    H. Sakai

  • Hello Sakai-san,

    Unfortunately, it is not straightforward to estimate the current consumption change with sample-rate as it depends on many different factors.

    I would suggest measuring the current on an EVM for each specific scenario.

    Best Regards.
