TAS5727: TAS5727 output power

Part Number: TAS5727

Hi,

In the datasheet, TAS5727 output power is 25W, my question is: 25W refers to peak power or average power or RMS power? i'm not sure because the speaker also has it own rated power, i don't know that rated power is matched with which PA's output power.

Thanks.

Best regards

  • Hi Mason,

    Usually, it refers to the maximum continuous output power. In fact, it can deliver more power if not limited by thermal. Please refer to figure 14 of the datasheet.

    As a matter of fact, thermal determines the maximum continuous output power. Factors below are needed to be taken into consideration:

    1. PCB: thickness of the copper/ layers of PCB/ layout and placement/ thermal pad;
    2. configurations:
      1. value of inductor: larger inductor usually leads to better thermal;
      2. DCR of the inductor;

    What list in the datasheet is measured with EVM board, hence please evaluate thermal and maximum continuous output power with EVM board.

    As to peak output power, please take over current threshold into consideration. It is kind of hard to determine how long peak output power lasts. Hence, here i think peak output power means no thermal is considered and only Over current threshold counts here.
