DRV603: Differential input with Line out/Headphone out which can support more then 3Vrms output.

Part Number: DRV603
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA6133A2, TPA6112A2

Hi Sir,

Could you please advise us a candidate which can compare with MAXIM MAX97220?

Here are the requirements from our customer, they would like to find a part which can drive more than MAX97220, please refer to their request point:

1. Differential input

2. Support both Line out/  Headphone out

3. Output swing support more than 2.15Vrms

4. Output power support more than 125mW @32ohm, 1%THD+N.

BTW, I am not sure that DRV603 will be the best candidate or not... but it cannot support the impedance with the Headphone range right?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Thanks,

George

  • Hi George,

I can test DRV603 on headphone impedance and provide some plots of the performance, would that help to compare this device against competitor even if the datasheet does not include this in the spec?

Regarding bullet number 3, do you know what is the load impedance for 2.15Vrms? is it 600-ohm?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Ivan,

Thanks for your input, if you agree DRV603 will be our best candidate to compare our competitor... I think it will be help that we can provide some data to proof headphone application. Please help to having the test for the headphone impedance, and some plots of the performance will be plus for us.

Regarding #3, I assume that customer item it because competitor list it on datasheet. They can support 2.15Vrms @ 600ohm/3.3v/0.1%THD, they expect we got higher spec of this one.

    Thanks,

    George

  • George,

After some tests I've got some information:

    • DRV603 is good for 600 and 10k loads, it provides the required output Vrms
    • DRV603 is not able to reach 125mW @ 32ohms, the output is clipping with this lower impedance load.

    • The closest device would be TPA6133A2, This device can be supplied by 5V
      • 125mW @ 32ohms / 5V / ~10%THD+N
      • 2Vrms @ 600ohms / 3.3V / ~1%THD+N

  • Hi Ivan,

Big thanks for your support and testing. Good to know that DRV603 still work okay on 600ohm, some of headphone will support to that impedance load. Could you share me some plots of the performance @ 32ohm? I will share the information to customer.

BTW, TPA6133A2 should be the headphone amp role for the application, would it still good in high impedance load as the line driver?

Look into datasheet, there are two question need your comments:

    1. TPA61332A2 should be able to support more than 2.15Vrms @600ohm with 5V?

    2. Did you have some plots of the performance of higher impedance load (maybe 1k/10k) with TPA61332A2?

    Thanks,

    George

  • Hi Ivan,

How about the TPA6112A2? It can support 6V Vdd, seems it got much higher power than TPA6133A2.

    Thanks,

    George

  • George,

DRV603 data sheet provides plots for high impedance loads, below is a plot for 32 ohm load.

TPA6133A2 data sheet provides plots for low impedance loads, below is a plot for 1k and 10k ohm loads, which is basically the same

Regarding TPA6112A2, it is actually supplied by the same voltage range than TPA6133A2 and this device does not have an integrated charge pump.

  • Thanks Ivan, will share to customer.
