TPA3116D2: TPA3116 gain/slave

Part Number: TPA3116D2

I want to do the TPA3116 amplifier by myself but I have some questions:

1) I don't want PLIMIT and I dont want to connect 2 TPA3116 (like a 2.1 with subwoofer) so what I have to do with the pin GAIN/SLAVE and PLIMIT? Just connect PLIMIT with GVDD by a 1uF capacitor and leave free GAIN/SLAVE or shall I connecte all the 3 pins PLIMIT-GVDD-GAIN/SLAVE with a 1uFcapacitor and then to GND?

2) I see pins 31 and 32 that are both PVCC and then pins 17 18 and 19 that are AVCC (17) and PVCC (18 and 19). The pins PVCC 31- 32 AND 18-19 are THE SAME PIN for power supply?? Shall I only use pins 17-18-19 and NOT 31 and 32?

3) Pins 1 MODSEL, 2 SDZ, 3 FAULTZ, 12 MUTE and 13 14 15 AM1/2/3. I saw different wiring like:

- MODSEL to GND, SDZ and FAULT with a R 100K to PVCC, MUTE and AM0/1/2 with a R 100k to GND; OR

- MODSEL to GND, SDZ, FAULT, MUTE and AM0/1/2 CONNECTED ALL TOGETHERS with a R 100k to PVCC.

So what have I to do with pins 1 2 3 12 13 14 and 15?

Thank you very much

Francesco

  • Hello Francesco,

    1. GAIN/SLV is used to configure gain, so refer to table 1 in the TPA3116D2 datasheet. For Plimit refer to section 7.3.4 in the datasheet and look at Table 3 for suitable configuration.

    2. All Power supply pins need be used for proper device operation, otherwise we cannot guarantee device functionality.

    3. Faultz/SDz can be connected together refer to section 7.3.9 in the datasheet and can share the same 100k pull up. For AM pins, if you a connecting them to ground they can be connected together, but if you decide to pull them up to PVCC you need individual pull up resistors, refer to section 7.3.16 in the datasheet to determine how you want to configure your device. Mute needs its own pull up 100k resistor.

For the remaining pins refer to our TPA3116D2 datasheet and TPA3116D2EVM as reference:http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slou336.

    Best Regards,

    Luis
