TAS2555YZEVM: TAS2555 analog inputs

Part Number: TAS2555YZEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2555, TAS2563, TAS2557, PCM4201

Dear support Team,

What must i do to setup the TAS2555 for analog input?
Apparently i cannot select this input option in the PPC3 software, so i have made some research about
how to set up the TAS2555 by hand. But i am not successful, the speaker is still silent.
- Analog input is done via the Vsense ADC.
- I have manually set P0B0R8 to 0x01 to enable analog input via the Vsense ADC
- I have checked power control register P0B0R5 to be set to 0xa3. Seems ok, D0 showse V-sense ADC powered.
- I have checked power flag register P0B0R100 to show 0xf0.
That's contradicting the settings in P0B0R5...

How to proceed to use analog inputs?

Kind regards

Andreas Paulin

  • Hi, Andreas,

Our team will take a look at this case and will answer as soon as possible.

  • Hi Andreas,

The analog input support on TAS25xx smartamps is very limited. It was actually removed for next generations like TAS2557 and TAS2563.

Analog input can only be used with the internal DSP disabled (ROM mode) and the performance of the Vsense ADC is not good for audio applications, in addition digital and analog sources cannot be mixed. This is why we don't provide PPC3 support for analog inputs.
We suggest to use a different path for your analog signal if possible. Several device settings must be changed from normal (digital) operation to analog input operation.

  • Hello, Ivan,

ok, that clears a lot. No analog. So we will look for some ADC which does the job.
Any recommendations for a cheap and small 1-channel Audio-ADC with I2S interface to just plug-in?

    Kind regards

    Andreas Paulin

  • Andreas,

For only 1 channel you could consider PCM4201.
However we have plenty more options for stereo and multiple channel applications in our Audio ADC portfolio. You can post a new thread with your specific requirements for a product recommendation.
