PCM9211EVM-U: How to use CodecControl

Part Number: PCM9211EVM-U
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5102EVM-U, PCM9211

Hi Team,

--What I want to do
Input waveform data to PCM5102EVM-U
and confirm the output state.

1.CodecControl software
Can I confirm the data input and data output status using CodecControl?
If yes, how to create input data and how to input and how to confirm the output data.

2.Besides the CodecControl software, is there any other way to realize “What I want to do”
If yes, how to create input data and how to input and how to confirm the output data.

Best Regards,
Tom Liu

  • Hi Tom,

At least for the devices I support, Codec Control is used as a GUI for configuring EVMs, adjusting register values and such. It does not do any kind of data monitoring unless the part itself stores the data you want to look at in a register that could be read by the GUI. Typically we interface the device with Audio Precision measurement equipment to do what you have described.

If this does not answer your question then you may want to re-ask this question with PCM5102EVM-U as the part number as this part is supported by a different team than the PCM9211 and the selected part number is how questions get routed to the appropriate team.

  • You can control the PCM5102EVM using one of two pieces of software.

    1. Codec Control: http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slac493 - this is the original GUI for the EVM.
    2. PurePath Console 1.16 - http://www.ti.com/tool/PUREPATHCONSOLE?keyMatch=PUREPATH%20CONSOLE%203&tisearch=Search-EN-everything  - You would use the PCM5142 environment for this.

You or your customer will need to request access to the PurePath Console software.

The EVM requires an external digital source to provide the input signal.  This would be a TOSLINK audio source or using the USB source, though that is only available using the PurePath Console 1.16 environment.

You can find a simple tone generator software tool or website to play your desired tone.  You will need some kind of meter or oscilloscope to confirm the output signal.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

According to your reply, I installed the PurePath Console 1.16 and referred to the Quick Start User‘s Guide.
However I didn't find how to create input data and how to input data.
could you tell me how to do it?

    Best Regards,
    Tom Liu

  • In PPC 1.16, select the USB input and configure the jumpers as shown.  Now, you can select the TI USB Audio source on your Windows PC sound configuration options (click the speaker icon in the lower right corner of your Windows taskbar).  Now the  EVM is configured to be a USB audio playback source.  You can now play any audio on your PC (Media Player, VLC, youtube, etc.).  I use a tone generator website as a quick source. https://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/
