TLV320AIC3254EVM-K: TLV320AIC3254EVM-K hangs Windows 10 when the USB cable is connected, but the EVM board works correctly on a Windows XP Machine

Part Number: TLV320AIC3254EVM-K

TLV320AIC3254EVM-K hangs Windows 10 when the USB cable is connected, but the EVM board works correctly on a Windows XP Machine.  I down loaded the AIC3254 CS software and installed it today, it installed correctly.  The first time I plugged in the USB cable to the EVM it hung the computer.  The computer will also not boot / restart with the EVM's USB cable connected.

I posed a similar problem about getting the EVM to work on Windows 7 2 years ago.  I still have not been able to get that one to work.  That's why I keep the windows XP around!

Are there other drivers or registry settings I am missing?

Thanks,

Brian

  • More information...

I have more than one TLV320AIC3254EVM-K and I found that the second one does NOT hang the Windows 10 machine when I connect the USB cable.  But, when connected the GUI has the "USB Interface" option grayed out, the "I2C Address" shows 0x0 (but it will let me change it to 0x30), the Window tab (at the top) is blank, and the blue framed window in the center is all white with none of the normal options.  Both EVM's work correctly on my XP machine.

I have now found that it's the AIC3254 daughter board that causes the Windows 10 machine to crash.  Both EVM main boards don't crash with the other AIC3254 daughter board installed, But, when connected the GUI has the "USB Interface" option grayed out, the "I2C Address" shows 0x0 (but it will let me change it to 0x30), the Window tab (at the top) is blank, and the blue framed window in the center is all white with none of the normal options.

I also found out that the Windows 7 machine has the same symptoms as the Windows 10 machine.  But, again, all combinations od main and daughter boards work correctly on my Windows XP machine!

I would assume it is a driver issue.

    Thanks again,

    Brian

  • Brian,

This is certainly confusing.  especially since many of our customers and our staff use the TLV320AIC3254EVM-k on computers running windows 7 and windows 10 without issue.

With the board that does not hang the windows 10 machine,  if you go to the device manager,  does the EVM appear?

    best regards,

  • Steve thanks for getting back to me.

    Confusing to me as well.

On the Windows 7 machine Device manager, I'm assuming you mean under Universal Serial Bus controllers? when I attach the USB cable it adds a third "USB Composite Device".  On the Windows 10 machine it also adds a  "USB Composite Device".  I don' see the word EVM at all.

I have been using these EVM's for several years, mostly on my XP machine.  I have had AIC3254_CS and Pure Path Studio working on the windows 7 machine in the past. I don't know what made them stop working?

I have had problems in the past and had to reload the USB firmware using DFUTEST.exe and DFUEE.bin (or USB-miniEVM0203_8KHZ.BIN) using my Windows XP machine and following the "AIC3254 EVM Firmware Programming.pdf" document.

But, one again every thing works on the XP machine?

    Thanks for your help, Brian
