LM4871: ne5532 and LM4871

Part Number: LM4871
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: NE5532,

I want to know

1. The difference between audio op amps such as ne5532 and speaker amps such as lm4871 in application?

2. Can they all drive the speakers directly?

3. The audio DAC output can directly enter lm4871 and then emit sound through the horn. Can the input of ne5532 directly link to the output of audio DAC?

4、Is ne5532 used in the same way as tda2822?

  • Hi, Zhang,

1.- The NE5532 and the LM4871 are two different devices that support different output loads. Basically, the NE5532 is an operational amplifier with limited output current. It is usually used with 600ohms loads. By the other hand, the LM4871 is a speaker amplifier with the capability to drive down to 3 ohms loads.

2.- Only the LM4871 is capable to drive speaker loads.

3.- Yes, a DAC output can be directly connected to any of these two devices. It is just recommended to add a low-pass filter in order to reduce/eliminate any high-frequency content that the audio DAC may generate due to internal modulation.

4.- Unfortunately, it cannot be used in the same way. The TDA2822 seems to be a power amplifier. The NE5532 cannot be used to drive low load as this device.

Do you need a specific power amplifier? I can suggest to take a look at our speaker amplifiers with analog input:

Please let me know if you have additional questions or comments.
