NE5532: NE5532 comparision to N5532

Part Number: NE5532

Hi TI,

I have a simple question. We bought some NE5532DR chips on digikey. The chips are labeled with N5532.
I had some NE5532 chips in my storage which I used for our circuit. My problem is that the new chips N5532 behave different than the old ones.

Did you change anything on the chip? Are the N5532 and NE5532 the same?

Thanks & Regards,

Tamara

  • Hi, Tamara,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in our products!

I would say that the only differences are related to the thermal metrics and the kind of package. As mentioned in PACKAGE OPTION ADDENDUM section of the datasheet ( https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/ne5532.pdf#page=14 ), the N5532 models come in SOIC and D package (which has a 97°C/W junction-to-ambient thermal resistance accordingly to page 4).

The NE5532 models come in PDIP and P package (which has a 85°C/W junction-to-ambient thermal resistance).

The rest of electrical characteristics are all the same.

Do you have the same behavior in all the units?

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.,

    Thanks for your quick reply.

    The packaging differences are understood.

Actually we do have different behavior between the N5532 and the NE5532.
We swapped the N5532 and NE5532 into and out of exactly the same circuit and we see significant differences in behavior.
This happens for multiple chips and mulitple circuits.

    Any suggestions?

We hope to use these chips in our products very soon.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Tamara

  • Hi, Tamara,

Do you have examples of the differences of behavior that you are seeing? Which device has the behavior that you expect and what it is?

Any other information you could provide will be appreciated.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.,

Yes I can share examples, but can we use this forums direct message feature?

    Best regards,

    Tamara

  • Hi, Tamara,

Yes, there's no problem. We can use the E2E chat if you prefer to share these details in a private conversation.

I will close this E2E thread since we will continue the support via E2E chat.

    Best regards,
