PCM1681: MCLK\BCLK\FS synchronization issue without internal PLL

Part Number: PCM1681
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5122, PCM5242

Hi Team,

My customer would like to search an audio DAC and below items are their requirements.

1.     TDM input

2.     4 channels output is better, or 2*2 channels output

3.     HW control is better than SW control(I2C)

4.     Internal PLL is better

5.     Vcc=3.3V is better than 5V

Actually, I'm not familiar with audio DAC.But customer said that PCM1681 could meet their requirement but it doesn't have internal PLL. They are afraid of the issue about MCLK\BCLK\FS synchronization.

Could you help suggest another solution which is similar to PCM1681 and has internal PLL?

quantity : 190k/y

Regards,

Roy

  • Hi Roy,

We do not have any devices that integrate a PLL that also have more than 2 channels.

You could consider the two-channel devices: PCM5122, PCM5242

It is possible to use the PCM1681 with SCK=BCK, but it requires that BCK is a higher frequency.  This is usually available if the customer is operating at a high sampling rate (192kHz) or if they are using TDM mode.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you for your help. I couldn't find the PCM1681EVM in internal sample request website.

Could I apply one EVM to our customer for reference? Or any contact window that I could apply the EVM.

    Thank you.

    Roy

  • There is no public EVM for this device.  We have a few prototype EVMs that I might be able to sample.  Please reach out to me at frost@ti.com with the opportunity information.

    Thanks,

    Paul
