PCM1863: PCM1863 right/left channel no voice

Dear team,

Customer find PCM1863 abnormal during their test. There are several PCM1863 has abnormal phenomenon, for example, left channel has no voice, or right channel has no voice, or both have no voice. Customer measured the waveforms and IIS BLK and LRCLK are normal, but Data waveform has no output.

I attached the configuration files and schematic for your reference.

The master mode SCKI is 32MHZ, sampling rate is 125K. The BLK and LRCK of master mode IC as the input frequency of slave mode IC.

Hope you could give some suggestion, thanks.

    Hi Sammi,

    One discrepancy I see between the two cases is register 0x09 is assigned as default for the good dump and is set to 0x00 for the bad dump. If this is the channel that they are expecting data from then that might be their issue. 

    To clarify, is data as expected the majority of the time? I don't see any errors in the status registers for either case, but in the bad instance register 0x72 reads 0x2F, and the normal value is 0x0F. The first byte in this register is reserved and unfortunately I'm not certain how it is used by the device, but I have seen it toggle in the past when one of the inputs is shorted to ground so they may want to verify their connections. 

    If neither of those fix the problem, can you please confirm the sample rate? You said 125kHz, but register 0x73 shows the sample rate to be somewhere between 32 to 48kHz.

    Thanks.Customer want the sample rate 125Khz, but it seems it is above the range in datasheet. So anyway customer could set to 125KHz or it does not work? How does the IC detect the sample rate?

    Hi Sammi,

    The PCM186x has an on chip oscillator that is used as the reference for auto clock configuration and sample rate detection. I don't believe 125kHz is a supported sample rate. I would recommend they adjust this to a valid audio rate if they are able.
