TLV320AIC32: passing through codec without processor connection

Part Number: TLV320AIC32
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3104

Good morning,

I would like to know if it is possible to used a codec (and the integreted founctions like AGC or ANC) without external processor (without using the audio serial interface) and without internal processor (mini DSP like in the TLV320AIC32x4 codecs).

Could we route ADC output to DAC input?

Thanks.

  • Hello,

The short answer is yes. You may connect DOUT to DIN on the device.

    Regards,

    Aaron

  • Thank you Aaron for your quick reply.

I just want to ensure that I understand what you said.

I take an example : I want to use effects like AGC proposed by the codec (the TLV320AIC3104 for example) but I don’t want to use an external processor.

So: _ I enter the audio signal in MIC1LP (for example again)

_ I configure the effects codec with I2C serial control bus

_ I connect DOUT to DIN of the audio serial bus interface (like you said)

And I will have the sound with my effects to the analog outputs ?

    Could you confirm that please?

    Thanks

  • Hello,

That is correct. There is also some EQ capability on the playback path of these devices.

I do want to note that because there is no internal miniDSP, Active Noise Cancelling is not possible with these devices. You would need and external processor to implement the proper algorithms.

    Regards,

    Aaron

  • Hello Aaron,

    Thanks for the informations.

I could also be interested by the active noise cancelling, indeed.

Using a codec with miniDSP requires the USB-MODEVM and the PurePath Studio software isn’t it ?

Which Codec with miniDSP do you advise me (the smallest one, i only need 1 input and 1 output)?
