TAS3251EVM: PPC Characterization

Part Number: TAS3251EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS3251, , TAS5825M

 Hi Team,

We are designing with TAS3251 and are working with the EVM. We have been using the TI PurePath v3.1.5 Console application, with the TAS3251EVM using the PBTL, Mono 1.0, Standard Processing Flow 1.0 48 kHz configuration. This is working very well and with no issues.

I want to use the PBTL Mono 1.0, Smart Amp Processing Flow 1.0 48 kHz configuration. This process flow supports Smart Amp features and requires me to acquire speaker characterization data. I have a PP-SALB-EVM that I have used for a previous design using TAS5825M. I was able to acquire these measurements, but with my WIN 10 laptop, this is where things got complicated. It comes down to WIN 10 USB audio driver issues.

In summary:

  • PurePath Console v3.1.5 with the TAS3251 module/software – will not recognize the PP-SALB-EVM Speaker Characterization Board
  • PurePath Console v3.1.5 with the TAS5825M module/software – does recognize the PP-SALB-EVM, but does not pass all Diagnostics
  • TI created a special PurePath Console v3.1.8 (Eagle) with an embedded TAS5825M module – that passed Diagnostics and fully works

To install the custom v3.1.8 (Eagle) PPC app, it requires fully un-installing the v3.1.5 I have been using. I have done this and am able to run the speaker characterization measurements. But I can’t Sign In with this build and install the TAS3251 module / software. So once I complete the speaker characterization measurements, I have to write down / screen capture the measurement data (except for SPL), uninstall v3.1.8, then reinstall v3.1.5. Then I have to manually enter most of the speaker characterization data (except SPL, which can be imported). Since I’m going to be performing many speaker characterizations, this process will be… inefficient!

 Questions:

  • Is there updated PurePath Console / TAS3251 software that will run on WIN 10 and support the PP-SALB-EVM speaker characterization?
  • Is there an easier way to do this that does not require a separate dedicated WIN 10 laptop with the custom Pure Path Console v3.1.8 (Eagle) software installed on it?
  • Hey Garret,

Have you tried saving the characterization file from the learning board and importing it into the TAS3251 Tuning page? There shouldn't be a need for manual upload.

Additionally, we too sometimes have trouble switching between Audio EVMs, the solution to this is as follows:

    a. Open Device manager

    b. Under "Sound, video and game controllers" find "USB-AudioEVM"

    c. Right click this driver and "Uninstall Device"

    d. Unplug USB, re-plug in USB into computer, this will allow the correct driver to be recognized by the computer.

If either of those do not work for you, I may also offer that I have several PPC3s installed on my computer (prototypes, official, etc.) the workaround to not overwrite is to select a different folder location in the download process.

    All the best,

    Carolina
