TPA6304-Q1: Does the USB-to-I2C adapter and More Recent EVM GUI Work with TPA6304?

Part Number: TPA6304-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5414

Gregg,

I think Adam Daluga (TI's customer-facing engineer for Indiana) and my boss have completed exchange of TI's NDA to cover this.  I am in possession of a long form data sheet for the TPA6304Q1 but no other sales collateral.

I plan to use the TPA6304 in the next iteration of my prototype PCB owing to its 4x higher chopping frequency than the earlier TAS5414.  Higher carrier frequency will go a long way to permit me to run the TPA6304 in a closed loop configuration.  TAS5414's two-pole reconstruction filter was killing my phase margin and made closed loop operation difficult. I've built some great TAS5414 power oscillators in recent weeks.

My TPA6304-ready printed circuit board will be available next week.  BTW, raspberries for the decision to put the TPA in a 1mm tall package. :-) It means that have to use a custom heat sink to clear adjacent 1206 bypass caps.

Can I reuse the USB-to-I2C converter board from the TAS54x4 EVM and an upgraded version of the TAS54X4 EVM GUI to drive my new TPA6304 prototype board?

Failing that, is there an EVM for TPA6304 containing these tools somewhere in TI's collection of US distributors?

If not I am prepared to modify my existing USB-to-I2C converter to make it work with your TPA-compatible EVM GUI.

Thanks.

  • Hi Jim,

The EVM can be ordered through your local TI Sales or Field app engineer.  The EVM has its own USB to I2C on the pcb and a new graphical user interface that will need to be downloaded.  This will also need to be requested through your local guy.

Your TAS5414 tools will not work with the new TAS6304 EVM.
