PCM4222: L/R channel synchronization

Part Number: PCM4222
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320ADC5140

Are the left/right channels within the PCM4222 synchronized? In other words, are the output data words captured at the same time or can they be offset by half an LRCLK? I would assume synchronization but I can't find that stated anywhere in the datasheet.

Assuming they are synchronized, is there a tolerance on the timing?

Thanks.

  • Hi Arthur,

Yes the left/right channels are sampled simultaneously. This part does not have the ability to add additional phase delay to the channels. We do not have a spec for the tolerance of this synchronization, but the internal ADCs share the same clocks and this tolerance will be negligibly small between channels on the same IC. Newer devices in our portfolio such as the TLV320ADC5140 offer phase calibration to calibrate for the phase error between microphones and other ICs, which may be critical for applications like beamforming. We do have a spec for TLV320ADC5140, and it has a channel-to-channel phase matching of 0.02 degrees.

    Best,

    Zak
