PCM5242: working out initial configuration

Part Number: PCM5242

Hello,

I have a custom PCM5242 board here, along with a PCM5242EVM module. Unfortunately, my custom module won't output any sound. I'm hoping that maybe you could spot the issue and help me figure out how to get it playing music.

I have a utility that will dump the registry settings from either my board or the EVM. So I've done that and compared the results.

EVM is on the left, and my custom board is on the right.

OK. So the main difference (that should matter) is page 0, register 118. Which seems to be telling me that it's in a "0100: Volume ramp up" stage. Also, page 0 register 108 seems to be telling me that "Analog Mute" is turned on. So it seems that for some reason it's muted. On page 20 of the datasheet it says that maybe I'm sending "zero data" but when I probe pin 28 "analog data input" and connect it up to the EVM the EVM will play (I don't have a scope). But this test shows me that data is flowing down to the right pin.

Plus, unless I'm reading it wrong. Page 0 register 90-95 seems to show that everything is working in terms of the clock status, etc. It shows the same (no difference) as the EVM.

Any advice on what I should do to fix it? I'm at a loss at the moment. Thanks for the help!

Jay
