TAS5720L: question about output filter

Part Number: TAS5720L
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5720M

Dear TI,

TAS5720L/M is a class-D amplifier,and the output can be filter-free,right?

But different stuff options are recommended for TAS5720L & TAS5720M,why TAS5720M need LC filter?

  • Hi Lifang,

    Can you provide your design specification for your system? Like PVDD voltage, load=?ohm, the maximum output power?

    As to the TAS5720L and the TAS5720M, main difference is the voltage rating for PVDD. L means lower votage rating.

    Usually, for filter free design, considering EMI/EMC performance, we only recommend this design in lower power design with lower PVDD.

    For TAS5720M which is mainly for higher power design, LC design is a must to deliver large output power without EMC concern.

    Thanks.

    BR.

  • Hi Alix,

    Thank you for your reply.

    Our PVDD is 12V,and we use TAS5720L.

    So filter is not necessary for audio performance,it's just design for EMC attenuation?

  • Hello customer,

    As to TAS5720L, LC filter is recommended for reasons below:

    1. EMC: this is a mono device, EMC is hard to pass if no LC is used even on your condition;
    2. Performance:
      1. Efficiency & thermal: LC help to improve the efficiency compared with ferrite bead;
      2. THD+N: of course, LC helps to improve the THD+N performance compared with ferrite bead

    BR.
