TPA3128D2: PBTL mode vs Mono mode in my system?

Part Number: TPA3128D2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3128,

Hi, I have 3 questions. This is my first time using AMP.

Question 1.

I am going to use one 30W(RMS) Speaker and want to use TPS3128 for the amp.

In this case, do I have to use TPS3128 as PBTL mode? or Mono mode?

.

If I can use mono mode, then can I use TPA3128 as mono mode? Because In the datasheet there says TPA3129 can be used as Mono mode. There are no comments with TPS3128.

.

If then, are Pin setting same?

1. INPR, INNR Directly to Ground.

2. Connect OUTPL, and OUTPL to Speaker?

.

Question 2.

I am going to use 7s Battery. Battery Voltage will be 21V~29V.(28.98 is max voltage).

In the data sheet absolute max rating of PVCC, AVCC is 30V and recommend is 26V.

Can I use battery voltage directly to PVCC, AVCC? Or would you recommend using DCDC Converter to make voltage down?

.

.

Question 3.

What is the meaning of TTL logic levels with compliance to AVCC? I thought TTL Logic means using 5V.
But AVCC is not 5V.

.

Can I make short these MODSEL, SDZ, MUte pins to AVCC?

Thanks.

  • Hi Zed,

    1) What's the PVCC power and load impedance for 30W application?

        TPA3128D2 can support 2 × 30 W Into a 8-Ω BTL Load at 24 V, and TPA3128 also can support mono application, same as TPA3129.

    2) You can connect the battery directly.

    3)  For pin level logic, you can refer the table 6.3.

MODSEL, SDZ, MUte pins are compliance to AVCC, you can short them to AVCC.

    Regards,

    Derek

  • Hi Yanming.

    Thanks for the reply.

    1.  This is my speaker module spec.

PBTL or Mono mode? Which is more appropriate for this speaker module?

    • SYSTEM : Passive radiator design
    • ACTIVE : DRIVER 86x86mm dome shape driver
    • DIAPHRAGM PP : composite with elastomer
    • HOUSING PP : composite material
    • DIMENSIONS : 190 x 120 x 59.7mm
    • VOICE COIL DIAMETER : 25.4 mm
    • IMPEDANCE : 4 ohm
    • POWER LOADING : 15 W (RMS)
    • MUSIC POWER : 30W
    • RESPONSE RANGE : 50Hz - 2KHz
    • SENSITIVITY : 1W / 1m 80 dB
    • Fs : 50Hz
    • POWER RECOMMENDED : 30W (RMS)
    • DESIGN SUGGESTION : High pass filter with 45Hz, 12dB/oct

    .

    2. In the table 6.3  MODSEL, SDZ, MUte pins's Vih min is 2V. But there is no max voltage.
    .

Isn't the TTL Logic means this pins works with 5V? Refer to below.

    https://e2e.ti.com/support/logic/f/151/t/862744

If I connect these pins to AVCC, then it will be much higher than 5V.

  • Hi Zed,

Mono and PBTL are same configuration.

According to your speaker, BTL is fine. You can refer the Figure 12.

The max voltage of MODSEL, SDZ, MUte is same as PVCC.

    Derek

  • Thanks very much!!
