TAS2770EVM-STEREO: Current Sense and Voltage Sense Data

Part Number: TAS2770EVM-STEREO
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2770

I was wondering if someone could provide some insight on the correct settings in order to receive current sense and voltage sense data in Audacity, using the setup of the Pure Path software, as I am currently unable to receive any data,

Currently, in the Pure Path software under the Receiver tab, I have the word length set to 16 bits and the slot length set to 32 bits (don't know if this is right). Also, I have the left channel time slot set as 0 and the right channel slot set to 2. In the transmitter tab, I selected the bus keeper option and put the I-sense data in slot 0 and the V-sense data in slot 2.

In the Texas Instruments USB Audio Device Control Panel, I set the input as 8-channels, 24 bits and the output as 8-channels, 32 bits.

Under my Windows Sound Control panel, I set the default format for my Microphone as 8 channel, 32 bit, 44100 Hz. I set the default format for my speaker to be 24 bits, 44100 Hz.

Finally, in Audacity, I generated my tone input to the TAS2770 formatted as a Mono, 44.1kHz 24-bit signal. I set my sampling format as a 32 bit float.

I don't really have that much experience with audio devices, so could someone let me know if any of these settings are wrong and what they should be?

Thanks so much!

  • Hi, Kathleen,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in our products!

Our team will take a look at this and will answer as soon as possible.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Kathleen,

Thank you for your interest in TAS2770. The TDM time slots are 8 bits wide in TAS2770, but IV sense data are 16-bit precision. Can you double check "Configure Slots" window of TDM Transmitter tab that IV Sense are assigned to to the correct number of slots? For example, left channel I-sense in slot 0 & 1, right channel I-Sense in slot 4&5, and etc.

    Regards,

    Jin Gao

  • Yes, I have the left channel I-sense in slots 0 and 1, and the right channel V-sense in slots 2 and 3.

  • Hello Kathleen,

Thank you for double checking. From what I gathered so far, the EVM USB interface to PC has 32 bit channel slots. Instead of assigning the data to slot 0 and slot 2, please try assigning IV-Sense to slot 0 for channel 1 and slot 4 for channel 2 so the first 4 slots will make up the left channel (32 bits for USB interface) and the next 4 slots will make up the right channel. Let us know if that helps solving your issue

  • Hi Jin,

This is what I get in Audacity when I assign the IV sense data to slot 0 and slot 4.

  • Hello,

Can you reattach the image by "insert media" on the tool bar?

Also, is your device audio output fine, and what is the sampling rate of TI USB Audio Device Control Panel>Status?

Do you mind checking the default recording device for me too?

    Regards,

    Jin

  • Hi,

Sorry about that! My device audio output is fine (I can get an amplified signal at the output points) and my sampling rate in the TI USB Audio Control Panel is 44.1kHz. I've attached image files of all my settings.

  •  Hello,

I configured PPC3 similar to your settings, but I am not able to replicate your issue.

One often overlooked case is for TAS2770 is the apply button. The "apply" button on the top right of the device control window is replaced with "power up".  Make sure you were able to configure the setting by clicking "power up" whenever you make changes.

Another thing to note is from looking at your audacity capture, it seems like both I and V sense are not able to be measured. If the device can output audio properly, the V-sense should reflect that.(e.g. 1 kHz tone in, 1 kHz tone out)

May I see your evm setting up?

    Thank you

    Jin

  • Yep, I always press the power up button after making changes so I don't think that's the problem. My EVM is setup with the power supply plugged in and also plugged into my computer through the microUSB cable. I was originally going to attach something to the output to have the TAS2770 drive it, but I took it off to debug the IV sense data but that didn't fix the problem.

I also attached soldered headphones to Output1 to debug if the output is working, so I know the device is definitely outputting audio correctly.

  • Thank you for the info. May I see your jumper settings, so I can double check it with my current setup?
