Hello,
can anybody explain how I can use the DRC in PurePath Studio?
I don`t understand to which value the input is related, because it is in dB?
Best regards,
Hakan

Hi, Hakan,
We have many devices controlled by PurePath Studio, most of which have a description of their DRC in the d/s.
If you can't find it in the device data sheet, please let us know which device you are trying to control.

Hello Don,
the problem is not the device, but the Pure Path Studio Software. I don´t understand to which value the input is related, because it`s in dB and not in dBW for example.
Thank you for your answer,
I hope you can help me.
Bets regards,
Hakan
Hakan,
We have numerous different versions of "PurePath Studios" and each one works a little differently. So, we need to know which chip's version you are using in order to help you.

Hi, Hakan,
I don't work on that device, but I think if you right click on the DRC stuff, it will pull up a little help menu which may clarify the situation for you.
dB is just another way to measure signals. It is a ratiometric measurement, in other words, it is referred to some fixed value.
You may also want to check the data sheet to see if it describes how to use the DRC in more detail.

Hello Don,
which fixed value is it referred to?
There is nothing in the data sheet.
Best regards,
Hakan
There is no problem with the data sheet.
I don`t understand how to use the graphic "DRC Customization Tool" in the PurePath IDE Software, because I don`t know to which fixed value the Input is referred to.

Hakan
Hello Don,
I have read that it is related to the estimated RMS value of the input signal ?!!

Hello Hakan,
I am also trying to find out how the DRC parameters works and, as you say, this is not so obvious without documentation. I have found this document that helped a lot: http://focus.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/an/sloa148/sloa148.pdf
It is not specific to you chip but I guess the way it works is not too differents between amplifiers!
Hope this help,
Best regards,
Thomas
Hello,
I'm just trying to find out threshold equasions for the DRC of a tas3204.
@Thomas: Your pdf gives some hints, however purepath gives me different coefficients.
For example:
T1 = -64 dB -> T1_Coeff = 19.25
T1 = -74 dB -> T1_Coeff = 20.92
The equasion shold be something like this:
T1_Coeff = T1 / 6.0206
Could anyone find out the correct formula?
Best regards,
Sebastian
Hello Sebastian,
The formula given by TI is this one : T_INPUT = (T – 48dB + gain) / -6.0206
If you use the GUI interface, a right click on the DRC component will give you an access to an help page where all the formulas are available.
Best regards,
Thomas
