LM4811: Application schematic in datasheet.

Part Number: LM4811

Hi sir,

At LM4811 datasheet page 16 as the link below.

1- Can I connect to up/Dn & clock pins a tactile switch as shown on the demo application (instead of using I2C)?

2- Can I use SMD ceramic capacitor at Ci, Cs, CB, Co as it is not stated in the datasheet if that is possible or not (page 5)

Every type of capacitor has it's performance, But It didn't give me the efficient answer, I just wanna use ceramic SMD as it have small footprint, But the datasheet isn't saying anything about it's performance also most Ti amplifier use ceramic at it's reference designs.

Thanks.

Regards,

M

  • Hi M,

    1. This device does not support I2C, you can use switches for both clk and up/dn signals, or use an oscillator for clk signal instead. The operation of the volume control is described in data sheet page 12.
    2. Yes, ceramic capacitors are usually recommended. Please consider DC voltage derating of the capacitors and select dielectric material as X5R or X7R.

  • thank u for your response.

is there an advice about tantalum capacitor also or a precaution I should take?

will the performance of tantalum will be better than ceramic ?

  • Hi M,

Tantalum capacitors have good ESR specs however they're are not usable in many regions, so ceramic or electrolytic capacitors are commonly used.
I don't think tantalum capacitors could affect bad the performance, but cannot be sure without testing.
