TLV320AIC23: Could be used as replacement for TLV320DAC23?

Part Number: TLV320AIC23

Hi,

Good day. I hope you are doing fine.

Our customer wants to know if they can use the TLV320AIC23PW to be a drop in replacement for TLV320DAC23PW. Kindly check below the inquiry they have for this matter.

The TLV320AIC23PW appears to be a drop in replacement for TLV320DAC23PW and I have tested it for our application. However now the pins 6,7,17,18 which were N/C on the TLV320DAC23PW are potential active inputs and outputs on the TLV320AIC23PW which are not used and will not be used in the application. Can these pins 6,7,17,18 be left unterminated on the TLV320AIC23PW if they are disabled in the registers or does TI recommend terminating the following pins?"

I would appreciate if you could help us on this. Thank you and have a great day.

Regards,

Cedrick

  • Hello Cedrick,

The AIC23 is a fairly old device at ~16 years old so I do not know for certain if these are P2P compatible. The AIC23 looks to be a similar device just with the added analog portion. What is the reason for replacing the DAC with a codec? Is the customer needing to use a codec?

    Regards,
    Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

    Thank you for your response.

They are planning to use the AIC23 as a drop in replacement to DAC23 as this device is now LTB. Thus, they are looking for a device that they can use as replacement.

Moreover, if this can be done, I would appreciate if you could guide us on how to terminate the unused pins as stated above..

    Looking forward to your response.

    Regards,

    Cedrick

  • Hello Cedrick,

I have confirmed that the devices are in fact compatible and the AIC23 can be used as a drop in replacement. The extra unused pins on the AIC23 can be left floating.

I want to note that the devices, although similar, are not the same and I recommend closely looking at the register settings of the AIC23.

    Regards,

    Aaron
