PCM6360-Q1: record 6 channel signals at the same time

Part Number: PCM6360-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM6260-Q1

Hi team,

Our customer needs to record 6 channel signals at the same time. Does this need to be realized by audio IC which integrating 6 ADC modules? I know that PCM6360-Q1 and PCM6260-Q1 both integrate six ADCs. Can I recommend these two chips to customer

Customer also requires that  it can generate 6 independent audio files. Can this be achieved? How to achieve this?

  • Hello Amy,

In order to record 6 channels at the same time, they'll need an Audio ADC with at least 6 ADCs inside it.  Many Audio ADCs and CODECs feature mulitple input options but these MUX down to a stereo (2-Ch), or quad (4-Ch) ADC in the end.

So, yes the PCM6360-Q1 or PCM6260-Q1 are great options for your application.

The ADC itself does not create Audio files (.wav, .mp3, etc.), it creates a multi-channel Audio serial output that a host processor will convert into the desired output formatting.

The EVMs for these devices can also be used to directly record Audio into your computer program of choice (Audacity, etc.).  This is done through the host processor on the AC-MB motherboard which first converts the Audio Serial output (I2S, TDM, etc.) from the PCM6260-Q1 into a USB Audio data stream which the computer can recognize and then save into different formats.
