DRV5825P: is this driver will work with U Sound MEMS Speaker

Part Number: DRV5825P
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM48580,

Hello,

I'm planing on using U sound MEMS speaker (www.digikey.ca/.../11657663) and in their datasheet they make refference the LM48580 as the amplifier to driver it. As i dig on TI website i say this new part and was wondering if it could drive it too. I'm pretty sure that would work but im asking what you think. Here's their refference design.

  • hello, Sir,

is your application " U Sound MEMS Speaker" capacitive load? can't open DIGKIG link.

    regards

    Linda

  • Hello Customer,

It is a very interesting application. Can you tell me which application is this design for? What is your SPL @max requirement?

Any key parameters for your design specification?

    To answer your questions:

    • power supply side:

                Note that 15Vp (30Vpp) is needed to drive the MEMS speaker. For LM48580, it is a analog input device integrated with boost while DRV5825P is digital input device that has no boost but it can directly support 26.4V max;

    • Mostly importantly, if your application needs to driver several mems speakers in parallel, DRV5825P will be a good choice to achieve more SPL as DRV5825P can driver ~5uF load for each channel at most.

    • Load side:

For this MEMS, its impedance model acts as below, hence, DRV5825P can drive this kind of load.

  • My application is a pair of usb c headphone so the DRV5825P would be great for this application because it reduce my bom cost and board space with his small footprint. As for the 15V im planing of using a Power Delivery system (or a DC-DC). I also noticed than in the datasheet of the DRV5825P I need to calibrate the LC filter acordingly to a resonance frequency over 25 MHz.What is this for? thanks for your answer.

  • Hello Customer,

As DRV5825P is suitable to driver larger loudness, which usually needs to driver >2uF capacitive load. Hence, LC filter is needed to be designed to avoid stability issue.

As to your headphone application, may you message me with your contact information for more detailed offline communication?
