TLV320AIC3254: Does AIC3254 support dual I2S output?

Part Number: TLV320AIC3254
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA5051

Hi Team,

Our customer is looking for an audio DSP to finish delay function, will input 1 CH I2S and need 2CH I2S output of it. We notice AIC3254 have secondary I2S port function, could you help to confirm if it can be used in here? If YES, could you help to share the guidance for this application?

We know we have lip sync delay ICs such as TPA5051, but customer need 2 pcs of them make expensive, AIC3268 is the same reason. Please also recommend suitable part if AIC3254 can't support, thanks.

  • Hello Wiky,

Yes the AIC3254 has two separate Audio Serial interfaces that can support 2x I2S outputs, but only one can be active at a time.  This is helpful when communicating with two different system processors, again only one at a time though.  For more information about the configuration, review Section 2.6.5 Secondary I 2S of the application reference guide:  https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaa408a/slaa408a.pdf

Now, the second half about the delays will need to be reviewed further and our capabilities here may depend on the memory available.  Can you confirm what sampling rate you're looking for these types of delays?

  • Hi Collin,

Thanks for your confirmation. Customer require 48kHz sample rate here, I am also wondering if AIC3254 have enough memory. Could you help to have a quick look? thanks.

    BR.

  • Hi Wiky,

The AIC3254 memory can support about ~2K words. That translates to about 40 ms, but some of it needs to be used for other tasks and so realistically only about 35ms of delay at 48 kHz is possible. The only sample rate at which 200ms is possible is at 8 kHz operation. Please also note that the secondary I2S cannot be simultaneously used with the primary I2S and so only one of the two outputs can be active at any given time.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Best Regards.
