TPA3255-Q1: Multi-Device Configuration for TPA3255 Amplifiers

Part Number: TPA3255-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3255

Hello,

To aim for achieving higher power for one (let's say 4ohm) speaker, can we use multi TPA3255 Amplifiers according to the TI application note for Multi-Device Configuration for TPA3255 Amplifiers.?

It seems to me that the Multi-Device Configuration is for separate speakers.

Best Regards,

Mehdi

  • Hi Mehdi,

No you cannot use multiple TPA3255 amplifiers to power a single speaker. This would likely cause permanent damage to the parts as there's no way to guarantee the current will be shared equally with the multiple devices.

Also I want to point out that even if you wanted more power into a single speaker, using your example of 4ohms and making PVDD = 51V, you would be voltage limited rather than current limit!

    Best Regards,
