TAS5630 output power

Hi,

We are doing TAS5630 output power measurements with TAS5630PHD2EVM. We are applying 48V DC to PVDD, and 0.9V peak, 800Hz sinewave input to TAS5630 EVM. The load is Horn speaker with 16ohm, 60Wrms rating. The TAS5630EVM gain is 31dB, so we should get 32V peak output, but we are getting 23V peak output sinewave of 800Hz.

So we are getting 33W peak output power (23V peak) instead of 64W peak output power (32V peak). Could you please let us know what would be the reason.

Veera, your math is correct, and you should get about 32.4V peak from 0.9V peak input.

Can you re-measure the various peak voltages through the EVM signal chain, including differential input and output voltages for the OPA1632 preamp circuit and differential output voltage from TAS5630? It is probably good to include scope graphs when you reply.

Hi Steve,

I was on leave past two weeks so I could not respond immediately. We are measuring output power at TAS5630PHD2EVM J11 conncetor (J11 and J13 shorted).

As you suggested we will also measure OP Amp input and output voltage levels and let you know.

Hi Steve,

Yes, it has been resolved.

We are using Ahuja Horn Speaker (60W, 16 ohm) as load and its a combination of inductance and resistance. Could you please let me know in such a case how to calculate output power delivered to the load.

Veera, I think the only way to do this is to apply Ohm's Law first - calculate the total impedance, taking into account the 90degree phase shift in the inductance. Then use this to calculate current from voltage. Then calculate power from resistance and current.

Alternatively measure current and calculate power from resistance and currrent.
