TLV320AIC3256EVM-U: Working with the evaluation module - Recording configuration - External microphone does not seem to be recognized.

Hello,

I am currently working the evaluation module for the audio codec. I have a lapel microphone (TRRS plug type) connected to the MIC_IN. However I am unable to record. I have enabled the recording configuration from the Codec control software menu. My experimental setup is as follows, the lapel mic is connected to the MIC_IN as mentioned above. Further I have enabled listen to this device in the Windows (Sounds menu) as a way of quick debug/verifying that the mic works.
With the same experimental setup as above, I used a different mic (TRRS plug as well) which is part of a headphone. In this case, the mic seemed to work as I could whatever I fed to the mic via the playback option enabled on windows. although with a lot of noise. (Noise here being a clicking/buzzing noise occurring periodically). I would like to have some guidance on how I could troubleshoot this issue and why only one mic works even though both are of the same type.

    Hello Santhosh,

    Sorry to hear you are experiencing some trouble here. 

    I believe the EVM headset/mic jacks are set up for an OMTP jack. Can you verify that 3.5mm jacks you are using are both OMTP? I think it would also be helpful to let us know which recoding script you are using in the GUI.

    Hello Aaron,

    I just double checked. It looked like they were TRRS plugs and luckily I had a converter with me. Both the microphones seem to work now. With respect to the recording script, I did not use any. I was simply using the Windows Listen to this input device as a quick debug method to see if the mic was detecting input.
    If I were to use a recording script, is there any documentation which I can use? Additionally I would like to know if there are any methods to see the captured audio from the AGC feature ?

    Hello Santhosh,

    Glad to hear it is now working.

    Regarding the recording scripts, there is no detailed documentation on the scripts themselves but when selected, there are comments explaining what is being configured. 

    For the AGC, there is an AGC tab in the GUI that can be used. Here, you can visually set the noise threshold and the target level as well as other parameters. There is also an information tab that provides some info on using the AGC. I have also included a link to an app note that provides some more detail on using the AGC here.
