Part Number: TLV320AIC32

Hi

The headphone driver default is Class AB to Class -D, Could you please help to check the changes and connection methods of the peripheral circuit?

  • Hi Neal,

The LC circuit is needed at the output stage as shown in Figure 2.-6 in the Class-D mode of operation. In addition to the circuit, there is also a recommended power up sequence for Class-D operation as described in Section 4.0.3 of the Applications Reference Guide (https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slaa557).

Let's know if you have any further questions.

    Best Regards.

  • Hi Diljith,

That is, the need to add LC filter mentioned in pages 14-15 of the reference design,Is the LC filter directly connected to the HPL and HPR pins?

Figure 2-6 and 2-7 show whether the op amp in front of the LC filter is an internal CODEC op amp or an external op amp needs to be added.

    Thanks

  • Hi Neal,

The performance of the Class-D headphone amplifier mode on the AIC3254 is not as good as the Class AB mode. For audio applications we would recommend using the Class AB amplifier. Could you let us know what kind of transducer (or load) are you trying to driver with the Class-D mode?

    Best Regards.

  • Hi

We need to use Class-D to drive 16ohm stereo headphones,

    So I want to know

the need to add LC filter mentioned in pages 14-15 of the reference design,Is the LC filter directly connected to the HPL and HPR

Figure 2-6 and 2-7 show whether the op amp in front of the LC filter is an internal CODEC op amp or an external op amp needs to be.

    Thanks!

  • To drive stereo headphones we do not recommend using the class-d mode. The distortion in class-d mode is high. The class-AB mode is recommended.

For class-d mode, the LC filter is connected to the HPL and HPR outputs. The amp in the diagram is internal to the device.
