PCM5101A: Difference between PCM5101A and PCM5100

Part Number: PCM5101A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5100, PCM5101

Dear TI Team

Please tell me the difference between PCM5101A and PCM5100.
When I check the data sheet, it seems that there is a difference in the power supply voltage value. If there is anything else, please let me know.

As a background, our customer was using PCM5101A, but the delivery date of PCM5101A was not in time, and we are considering whether to use PCM5100 instead.
(By the way, our customers know that the PCM5100 is not recommended for new designs.)

I would be very happy if you could tell me.

Best Regards,

Y.Ottey

  • HI Y.Ottey,

The PCM5101A would should be compared to the PCM5101 (not PCM5100).  The x01 has 6dB higher SNR and lower THD than the x00.

The -A revision improved yield, added the 1.8V digital logic support, and improved startup/auto-mute pop noise.  The non-A version could have an offset on the output of >10mV, so when audio input was applied, that offset would be calibrated out.  That calibration can result in a click or pop noise.

The pop/click noise exists on both the PCM510xA and PCM510x, but it was reduced significantly in the -A version.

If the customer has a good external mute functionality and are not using 1.8V logic, then they could use the non-A version.

    Thanks,

    Paul
