TLV320AIC3100: SDA undershoot

Part Number: TLV320AIC3100

Hi All,

I have a question about TLV320AIC3100.

This is the input waveform of SDA.

In this way, an undershoot of -600 mV is inserted in 2nsec.

I don't think it will damage the IC because it's a short time. But it needs to be improved.

Is this a problem? Please tell us your thoughts.

Best Regards,
Ishiwata

  • Hello Ishiwata,

As you'll find in the absolute maximum ratings table (Table 5.1) the absolute maximum input voltage to a digital input pin is (IOVSS - 0.3V).  Therefore, the image you're sharing is in violation of that specification and should be improved.

I have a feeling measurement non-idealities and other system effects may be increasing the behavior so it is likely very close to being within tolerance.  Would you consider placing a small ~33Ω resistor in series with the I2C driver?  This will help dampen the waveform on the falling edge where the driver is active and will likely alleviate the trouble behavior.
