TAS5825MEVM: TAS5825EVM Excursion protection Passive radiator speaker

Part Number: TAS5825MEVM

Dear Sir, Madame,

In the Purepath SW I have modeled my speaker (configuration: passive radiator) by entering the T/S parameters, the enclosure parameters (inclusive passive radiator properties). For the SOA limits, I entered the peak excursion limits and thermal limits of the driver (I do not have the Smart amplifier learning board)

The Purpath Console SW calculates correctly the Speaker response (as compared to another simulation program), however, it seems that PurePath does not provide the excursion information.

In addition, when playing audio, there is no protection against over excursion of the speaker (severe clipping of the speaker).

The excursion of the speaker can only be reduced by entering an unrealistic small excursion value (more than a factor 5 smaller).

1. Why is the excursion not calculated for a speaker with a passive radiator? (it seems it works for closed speaker boxes and boxes with a vent)

2. If the program cannot calculate the excursion curves, can I apply these curves manually?

3. If item 2 is not possible how can I we get the speaker excursion protection work correct?

Thanks and best regards

Roel

  • Hi Roel,

Luis is having heavy work load recently. We will reach back as soon as possible.

  • Hi Frank,

Thanks for the answer, I understand the heavy workload! Just out of curiosity when do you think an answer will be available (we need to advise a customer on the usage of this amplifier).

    Best regards

  • Hello Roel,

It's recommend to use the ported modeling in place of the passive radiator for characterization as there isn't an effective way to properly model the Passive Radiator characterization.

You cannot apply your own excursion curve as the model is determined based on the extracted speaker model parameters and IV data from the speaker characterization.

You could use a laser if you want to measure excursion data on your system to validate it as that is the main way to actually get actual excursion data.

    Best regards,

    Luis
