PCM6360-Q1: 64k and 128k samplerates

Part Number: PCM6360-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1865-Q1

Hello,

I need to use the PM6360 with 64kHz and 128kHz. Unfortunately the chip senses "invalid sample rate" in the ASI_STS register and mutes SDOUT.

I managed to bypass the PLL and supply my own MCLK, but seems the chip is too smart and still senses the frequency is not on the supported list. Is there a way to get these frequencies running?

  • Hi Juergen,

Unfortunately these sample rates are not inherently supported by the device. I need to check with the design team to see if there is possibly a way these rates could be supported. Please allow a few days for us to investigate and get back to you!

    Best,

    Zak

  • Thanks for asking! I managed to do the manual programming for the PLL already, but the frequency checking feature i am still not able to switch off.

  • Hello Zak, do you have news about the sample rate support for 64k and 128k?

  • Hi Juergen,

I apologize for the delay, I am still trying to understand the details but I don't think we will be able to support these sample rates. Even a custom configuration of the internal filters would result in the output signal being -60dB for full scale input and I don't think this would be very useful. The device is really only intended to be run at standard audio rates and while there is some flexibility in that, in this case we can't cleanly support this.

I believe it would be possible to operate PCM1865-Q1 at this rate if that is a suitable option. Otherwise we could also consider non-audio ADCs if you have a SPI interface that could be used.

    Best,

    Zak
