TLV320DAC3101: Question of HPL and HPR PIN

Part Number: TLV320DAC3101

Dear Team,

Our customer have a question as below, could you help to support it?

Customers generally use i2S signal input, the clock signal is also normal, but HPL and HPR output is only 1.2V.

Could you guide us how to find out the root cause?
Thanks a lot!

BR,
Jimmy
  • Hi Jimmy,

Can you provide more details on this? Let me add some questions below:

    • What is the load impedance? If the load is disconnected, does the voltage range change?
    • What is your HPVDD supply voltage?
    • Can you share the configuration of the device? If you have a script or similar
    • If you increase the gain of the amplifier, is the output only clipping?
    • Is it possible to share the schematic and layout if not using the EVM? This is to check if there could be some hardware problem

  • Hi Ivan,

Thanks for your help, reply as described in purple.

    • What is the load impedance? If the load is disconnected, does the voltage range change?

==>4 ohm speaker . Output does not change if disconnected loading

    • What is your HPVDD supply voltage?

    ==>3.3V

    • Can you share the configuration of the device? If you have a script or similar
    • If you increase the gain of the amplifier, is the output only clipping?

==> Because fix FW code I can't change the source code, I just use the default setting.

    • Is it possible to share the schematic and layout if not using the EVM? This is to check if there could be some hardware problem

     Many Thanks,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Jimmy,

Thanks for your inputs, I'll take a look and provide further comments shortly.

Is there any chance you can share a scope capture of the output signal from DAC device?
I'll get some captures myself and share with you so you can compare, if that helps.

  • Hi Jimmy,

1.2V described is at the output of TLV320DAC3101? Or at the output of the power amplifier connected at the output of the DAC?
Could you try removing R58 and R59 and check the voltage at the output of the DAC?

Please notice there are two analog gains at the HP output path, analog attenuation from 0 to -78dB and HP driver gain from 0 to 9dB, perhaps you need to reduce the analog attenuation? The output amplitude for HP driver into high impedance load should be close to HPVDD voltage ~3V.
