TAS5634EVM: The SPDIF LOCK LED (D6) dose not light blue

Part Number: TAS5634EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5634, DIX4192

Hi team,
I have 4 units of TAS5634EVM. The 3 units works fine.
The 1 units have problem.
I have the User's Guide SLAU750–October 2017.
The problem point is column of "2.3 Power Up 6. Press the INPUT(S6) ..."
The SPDIF LOCK LED (D6) dose not light blue if the pcb temperature is under 37 degree c.
It seems some device is sleeping till the temperature is over 37 degree c.
The temperature sensor is near J31 GND. Is this unit defective product?

  • Hello Kawamura-san,

Thank you for letting us know about this. Just to verify, you are seeing that when the device is over 37C it works but not under 37C? This is quite strange as testing would have happened at room temperature, around 25C, before we send the EVM out to customers.

This sounds like the problem is isolated around the onboard microcontroller rather than the devices based on your description. Is there any other strange things you have noticed? Are you able to verify that the TAS5634 device works fine on the EVM?

    Thank you,

    Robert Clifton

  • Yes ,I am seeing that when the device is over 37C it works but not under 37C. The room temperature is around 20C.
I have verified that the TAS5634 device works fine on the EVM when the device is over 37C.
I have verified by using I2C that the DIX4192 control register are not set (value is 0)when the device is under 37C.It seems that MSP430 is waiting for the reply from another device.

  • Hello Kawamura-san,

Thank you for informing us of this. This is the first time we have ever heard of an issue such as this before so this is very good you reported it. The issue, as you suspected is likely from the onboard msp430. Potentially a solder issue or something along that. Either way, I would say that this board can be considered defective as it's performing abnormally.

    Thank you,

    Robert Clifton
