tlv320dac23 - no audio out of headphones

I'm using the tlv320dac23 device in usb master mode. The data format is DSP format and 'fs' selected is 32 Khz.

I feed the device with MCLK = 12 MHz.

I set and send the following control register:

  1. x"0000" (left line input).
  2. x"0200" (right line input).
  3. x"047f" (left channel headphone volume control).
  4. x"067f" (right channel headphone volume control).
  5. x"0812" (analog audio path control).
  6. x"0c07" (power down control).
  7. x"0e43" (digital audio interface format).
  8. x"1019" (sample rate control.
  9. x"1201" (digital interface activetion).

my DSP send data steps of 1 Khz tone for each 'LRCIN' pulse according to the data sheet requirement.

still no audio come out from the headphone.

please advice?

  • Hi, Mr Vitner,

Welcome to e2e, and thank you for your interest in our products.

Sorry that you are having difficulty. This app note (link) might help you get the part running.

  • Hi,

Thank you for the quick respond.

I read the ‘app note’ and my design meet all the mentioned requirement.

When I send command to divide the MLCLK (set sample rate control register to: x”1081”)  I see MLCLK/2 at the CLKOUT pin as requested.

This mean that the SPI work properly. If that is the case, either, I send wrong control setting or the device is malfunctioning (the problem occur on 2 different boards).

Can you verify if something wrong with may control register setting.

    Happy new year.

    Baste regards

  • Hello Mordechai,

I have checked your register settings, If Digital Audio Path Control register (Address: 0000101) is not modified, the DAC is soft muted by default.

You need to unmute the DAC  by sending a value of x"0A00".

  • Hello diago,

Thank you for the helpful advice.
    I misunderstood the data sheet,
I thought that “DAC soft mute” is a switch, enabling software control over the headphone mute.

    Best regards,
