Does PCM27xx/29xx supprt for Linux, Win10?

Hi,

My customer has been considering to choose PCM codec for Linux.

Let me ask you 2 questions.

Q1) Which device following listed can work with Linux?

http://www.tij.co.jp/product/jp/PCM2705C/compare#

And TI does not offer someting like device driver for Linux, right?

Q2) Do you have the devices that can work with WIn10?

Thank you for your support.

Best Regards,

  • Hi Takumi-san,

All PCM290x and PCM270x work the same way. These devices are automatically recognized by the host operative system (Win, Linux, Mac) through the standard USB Audio Class driver. Most of the conventional (not customized) versions of OS include this driver so they are able to recognize PCM2xxx devices. In addition, PCM2xxx are slave devices, so the host must be able to act as the master, this is the reason why Android is not a strong candidate to work with these devices.

For Q1: PCM2xxx can work with Linux as long as the operative system is able to work with standard USB Audio Class. I have used PCM290x in an Ubuntu distribution and it worked fine. As these devices are automatically recognized by the OS, there is no driver.

For Q2: PCM2xxx can work with Win10, too. I also have used PCM290x in a Win10 system and it worked fine.

  • Hi Ivan-san,

Thank you very much for your reply!

    I understood well.

As I did not know Android well, I have studied it.

As far as I study, Android can support "USB master" from Ver3.1.

So I think that PCM2xxx can work with Android after the version 3.1.

    Is my idea correct?

    Thanks, Best Regards,

  • Hi Takumi-san,

That is correct. As long as the Host device is able to act as Master, and supports standard USB Audio Class it should be able to work with PCM2xxx.
I have found some information in the following link:

  • Hi Ivan-san,

One customer has considered following OS(Linux) with PCM290xC.

      Linux Kernel : 2.6.32

      Distribution : Red Hat 6.8

I would like to confirm you if PCM2xxxC can work under the OS.

Would you please tell me your idea?

    Thank you for your support.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Takumi-san,

I can't verify this as I don't have access to the selected OS. However, I think PCM290xC should be able to work on this platform.
