TPA3118 Pop-noise issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3118D2

Hi team,

My customer come across TPA3118 pop-noise issue,

Condition:Pull-up /SD pin to high-level,when pull-up or pull-down Mute pin(Mute and Unmute function ),Pop-noise come out ,what should I do to prevent this issue?

  • Have a look at this:

If there is a microcontroller on the PCB you can also unmute after powering up.
  • Hi, Bing

Pop/click can't be eliminate, but can minimize.

                  1) There is a 10ms delay between SDZ (L-->H) to enable amplifier's PWM switching.  If you use a DE (differential ended input), the INP and INN bias voltage should rise with the same rate (make sure you use X7R/COG capacitor with good accuracy).       If you use a SE (single ended input), the INP and INN bias voltage rise with different rate, it should cause pop/click. suggest change the input  AC coupling capacitor lower (for example, with 1uF or 0.47uF).

                  2) Mute-Unmute pop/click should very small, it is mainly caused by the ClassD's output offset, it should be lower than 15mV based on TPA3118D2's datasheet.

Please use TPA3118D2's BD mode to get the best pop/click performance.

  • BTW, which gain are you use, 20dB/26dB/32dB/36dB?
