TAS5760XXEVM: setup and run PurePath console, run it but the output of the audio is very small.

Dear Sir,

I had finally setup the PurePath Console 1.16 on Windows 10, run it and connect it to the EVM board. Target select TAS5760XX

EVM board has power with 15V, connected 2 speaker ( 4 OHM ) at OUT A & OUT B.

After program run, it can connect the EVM board through USB. Try to play an audio on PC, it play well on PC speaker.

At AudioSwitch selection, Device 2 select Line (3-USB-AudioEVM), once this icon selected, the "ZERO" green LED will turn off. However, OUTPUT A has very tinny audio output volume,

I checked all the volume, from PC, digital and analogue are all set to maximum. Mode : Software selected.

How come the volume is so low?

I did not change any setting so far.

Am I missing something?

Hi Martin,

Check the SFT_CLIP pin and make sure its voltage is set to be close to the GVDD_REG pin by adjusting R1.

Dear Andy,

I am not able to locate SFT_CLIP pin nor the GVDD_REG, only see R1 on the TAS5760XXEVM ( small board ) which label as PLIMIT. Is that the variable resistor you mentioned?

Search over SLOU371A.pdf, there is no SFT_CLIP nor GVDD_REG.

I try to adjust that R1, but there is no difference.

Only see when select Line(3-USB-AudioEVM) device in the configuration, then ZERO GREEN LED turn off, OUT1 has very very low volume sound output accompanied with noise. Need to stick the ear to the speaker before I can tell it has sound.

I put 12V power to the board VIN, will this enough? It draw around 0.25A.

Another question, the slou408 [PP3 USER MENU].ppf show it use PP3 and install TAS5766M. But how come I installed PP3, there is no such APP to install?

Will this be the reason it do not work?

I install PP2 and not work, then install PP1.

It is very confuse?

Yes. See the screenshot below.

You need to install PPC1 (PurePath Console 1). PPC2 and PPC3 are not designed for TAS5760.

Try one more thing.

Go to Registers tab after you launch PPC1. Find the Bit 0 of the power control register and click it twice.

Hi Andy,

Great! It works now after toggle that bit. Is that a software bug?

Anyway, I try to place a 10k wave file, it can play well. But when I try a 25k wave file, seem like output has nothing.
Do you know what is the maximum frequency it can play on these channel?

Does it need to set something to play high frequency ? Out application is to play a very high frequency wave file, may be around 30 to 50k.

So what is the highest frequency it can play?

I try up to 22k tone, it play OK. But a 24k tone will have nothing on output.

Hi Martin,

The USB audio has a fixed sample rate 48kHz. You will only be able to play a tone whose frequency is less than 24kHz if USB audio input is used.

TAS5760 needs to be place into the double speed mode to support higher sample rates (like 88.2kHz or 96kHz), if you want to play a high frequency tone.

In addition, I would suggest you use the optical SPDIF as the audio input since it can support the 96kHz sample rate.

So I feed I2S signal into the SDA / SCL to the board with a sampling rate of 96k to play 30k audio and set bit 3 to double speed, will it able to play?

No. The SDA and SCL pins are for I2C (NOT I2S) communications.

Dear Andy,

So if I want to feed I2S to the TAS5760xEVM with 96k sampling rate, do I need to separate it with the main board and make our own connector layout to match?

Or we need to do our own PCB layout with TSA5760?

Beside, where is the above register from ?
