PCM5142: Clarification required: XSMT pin (25)

Part Number: PCM5142

The PCM514x datasheet is unclear in the voltage requirements for XSMT pin.

I am using a dual supply with AVDD=3.3V and DVDD=1.8V.

8.3.3 p20: In systems where XSMT is not required, it can be directly connected to AVDD.

10.3 p63: – When the XSMT pin level reaches 2 V, soft mute process begins.
NOTE The XSMT input pin voltage range is from –0.3 V to DVDD + 0.3 V.

This information is contradictory.

Do I pull the XSMT pin to AVDD as per 8.3.3? Or to DVDD as per 10.3? If I have to pull it to AVDD, then I can't control its state with uP.

If I pull XSMT pin to DVDD=1.8V, will it be stuck in a perpetual state of mute?

  • Hi John,

I have confirmed with our design team that XSMT operates on the DVDD domain. So in the case where DVDD and LDOO is 1.8V, the text is not correct as it assumes DVDD=AVDD=3.3V. Thanks for pointing this out for us.

So to clarify, if you have DVDD and LDOO = 1.8V, you should connect XSMT to DVDD (1.8V) domain. The 2.0V/3.3V ration should still be valid, so you can expect the soft mute to begin at about ~1.1V.

    Thanks!
