PCM1864: 4 PCM1864 Cascading to support 16 way microphone array.

Part Number: PCM1864
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01454

Hi

According to TIDA-01454, 2 PCM1864 can cascade to support 8 microphones in one EVM. Can I connect 2 TIDA-01454 to cascade 4 PCM1864 by which I can sample 16 microphones simultaneously by sharing synchronization clock signal.

  • Hi,

TIDA-01454 uses two PCM1864 (4-ch Audio ADC) as the devices are configured to output TWO I2S streams - one I2S output is available on DOUT pin and other I2S stream on one of the GPIO pin which is configured as DOUT2. We choose the I2S format to take advantage of the McASP on the K2G (TIDEP-088) which is companion device...

Are you planning to use the TIDA-01454 w your own processor? If so, will you be implementing your own beam forming algorithm? Or do you plan to use 2 K2G processors to interface with TIDA-01454 board? You can use 2 CMBs to achieve 18mic interface as it stands.

Alternatively, if you are implementing your own algorithms, you have an option to configure the PCM186x in TDM mode as well.

    Thanks & Best regards,
    Ravi

  • Hi Ravi,

we are investigating with the audio front end, especially synchronized audio codec, by which we can grab audio signals with precise phase information, so that beamforming algorithm can be done in DSP or FPGA. The point is we need to extend to more than 8 channels. Thank you for your help.
