PCM2903C: Good part for use with WIN10

Part Number: PCM2903C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM2901, PCM2903

I'm working on a design that originally used a PCM2901 part.  The design is being updated.  Looks like a replacement would be a PCM2903C.  Is this a good part to use with WIN10?  Good driver support in WIN10?   Acceptable audio performance?

Is there an alternative part recommended?

  • Hi Kevin,

PCM2903C is definitely a good replacement for PCM2901 which was released earlier than PCM2903. This is fully complaint w USB2.0 and is definitely has good audio performance [it's on par with PCM2901 in all other respects wrt audio performance].

As far as the drivers go, PCM2903C is a USB-audio codec which uses the native USB Audio Class driver from the host Operating System. There is no need for an extra driver to operate with Linux or other OS as the UAC driver should be part of the OS. From what I know, Windows 10 uses Windows Hardware Lab Kit (Windows HLK) which is intended for testing of hardware and drivers on Windows 10 platform. The Windows Hardware Certification Kit continues testing hardware on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 (and their server products respectively) platforms and PCM290xC should meet all the requirements for WLK 1.5 requirements.

    Best regards,

    Ravi
