TLV320AIC3256: Reading audio from external storage device

Part Number: TLV320AIC3256

Hello,

I am trying to make a portable audio player that uses a MicroSD card for storage. Is it possible to read PCM (or WAV) files directly from the MicroSD card to the DIN pin of the codec? If not, is there any kind of external storage that can interface with the codec?

Thank you,

-Brian S.

  • Brian,

the AIC3256 would not convert a wav file to audio, The Data needs to be provided to the AIC3256 in the digital audio formats stated in the Datasheet. (I2S, DSP, Left justified, Right justified) Typically a processor would retrieve the file from storage, and pass the decoded file onto the digital audio bus.

So the WAV format is meant for storage, while the I2S format is meant for transmission between ICs.

Does that make sense? So some kind of processor would be needed to access the file and transmit the data and clocks on the audio bus.

    best regards,
