Just wanted to find out what the status of WiLink 8 and whether this protocol has been further developed into a standard (like with IETF, IEEE etc.)? Are there any competing standard out there for multiroom audio?

Hi Mudhafar Ali,
Can you please let us know which specific standards that you are interested in? This will help us answer the question correctly.

Hi Sudharshan,
Am talking about the WiLink 8 protocol that developed by TI and whether this protocol is getting standardized with IETF or IEEE. I guess I can rephrase my question: is there a standard protocol developed for multiroom audio applications besides TI's WiLink 8?
Best regards,
Mudhafar
Hi Mudhafar,
Are you referring to the WiLink8 Wi-Fi mesh audio demo? This is based on IEEE 802.11s standard

Hi Sudharahan,
Thanks for the feedback.
I did see in the WiLink 8 page already. What about the time synchronization aspects?U
I understand that WiFi support mesh networking and I know there are packet based timing schemes like IEEE 1588 etc.
Although we could use existing protocols, the question is whether someone looks at the performance and made a conclusion that some improvements are needed, thus justifying a new protocol dedicated for this application (multiroom audio) independent of the PHY layer.
Mudhafar
Hi Mudhafar,
There are many industry effort for time synchronization (for factory automation space and audio space). However there are no current plans focused on WiLink8 to improve the accuracy.

Hi Sudharshan,
Last question, is WiLink 8 now the stack of choice (maybe through the partnership with Stream Unlimited) in the industry, or do you know if there are other alternatives for this application (multiroom audio)?
Mudhafar
Hi Mudhafar,
On WL8 the solution is available through Stream Unlimited.
