TLV320AIC3254EVM-K: USB is not recognized, cannot connect EVM

Part Number: TLV320AIC3254EVM

Hi,

I have two TLV320AIC3254EVM boards, I was using them without any problem in the beginning, then I changed sampling rate from default 44.1kHz to 48kHz, it showed something like, the sampling rate is not aligned with EVB, firmware needs to be updated, and I clicked yes, everything went well (except it wants we to select board FWID, I didn't know what to select so I cancel it, but the GDE still worked), however after couple hours EVM unplugged, I could not connect it back! My windows 10 is always showing the USB is not recognized, AIC3254 CS also shows EVM disconnected.

I thought it was the first one went down because some hardware reasons, but It happened on my second boards! The second one ran well in the beginning as well, now it is malfunctioned like first one after I did the same things.

I saw a related question here, tried to re-install ESBEVM driver, however it keep showing "download failed" at step 6 following the instruction, what can I do now? It's urgent!

Thank you,

Pierce

  • Pierce,

The firmware for the AIC3104 and the Firmware for the AIC3254 are different,  please follow the instructions for the firmware attached.

Make sure that you are shorting SCL and SDA when you plug the EVM in,  then remove it after 5 seconds or so.

the instructions have to be followed exactly.  the DFUTEST program is a little glitchy (as I'm sure you've noticed)

  • Hi Steve,

Sorry for the misunderstanding, it was a typo but I don't know how to edit the title.

I am using a TLV320AIC3254EVM-K and tried to flash 3254 firmware but it keep showing the DFU is not found and download failed.

    Thank you,

    Pierce

  • Pierce,

I am actually having exactly the same issue that you are.

I can't remember exactly the last time I used the DFUTEST utility,  but it couldn't have been longer than 6 months ago.  I have updated the firmware hundreds of times in my time at TI...  but suddenly It is not able to find a DFU device.

Does GDE still recognize the board?

do you have Purepath Console 3?  and if so,  can you open the I2C master App, and plug in the EVM and see if the "connect" icon appears in the lower left hand corner?

    best regards,

    -Steve Wilson

  • Hi Steve,

Thank you for the help, I finally figured out how to solve it.

At the beginning, my purepath portable nor the AIC3254 CS cannot recognize the board, I have contacted with local FAE and he said that I need to re-flash the firmware like I expected.

However my computer cannot recognize my board even I short SDA and SCL before I connect the board (EEPROM switched to 10000010), I've tried million times but it still couldn't enter DFU mode.

Finally I realized that my computer needs to be installed the board driver first! you need to go to computer hardware setting and install the driver, make your computer recognize the board, then it can enter DFU mode. Our local FAE or experienced people have installed driver but they are get used it already and forget new computer may need to install driver first.

After that, I followed re-flash firmware instruction and the issue is fixed. (Although it still happens sometimes and I need to do it again)

Hope this experience can be remembered because I was in a tight schedule and spent so much time to fix it, don't want somebody suffering like I did.

    Cheers,

    Pierce

  • Pierce,

Which board driver did you install?

    best regards,

    -Steve Wilson

  • Hi Steve,

I'm not sure, I used this file, assigned OS driver update to folder "dfu_driver" then it installed automatically.

After that, DFU can be recognized and can be re-flashed.

    Cheers,

    Pierce
